State guide
Alaska
Alaska's DMV has a dedicated abandoned-vehicles page that separates public-auction cases from private-property title transfers. State guidance is unusually specific: 48 hours near the traveled portion of a highway, 24 hours on private property without consent, and 30 days on other public property can trigger abandonment treatment.

- When a vehicle counts as abandoned
- Alaska DMV states that an abandoned vehicle includes one left unattended on or within 10 feet of the traveled portion of a highway over 48 hours, on private property over 24 hours without consent, or on other public property more than 30 days without consent.
- Removing one from private property
- The owner of private property may request in writing that the municipality remove the vehicle, and if the vehicle stayed on private property without consent for 30 days it is presumed abandoned for a DMV title-transfer claim.
- Getting title to an abandoned vehicle
- For a private-property claim, Alaska DMV says to give statutory notice to the owner and lienholders, wait 30 days after notice if unreclaimed, then bring Form 826, Form 811, the title application, and notice proof to DMV.

What to do next
- If the vehicle is on your private property without consent, document when it arrived and whether it stayed there at least 30 days before trying to claim title.
- Send required owner and lienholder notices exactly as DMV instructs and keep the certified-mail receipts or returned unopened mail.
- Do not use Alaska's surety-bond title path for an abandoned vehicle claim; DMV says abandoned vehicles are excluded from that process.
