Idaho

Idaho runs abandoned-vehicle processing through the Idaho Transportation Department’s DMV and its online Abandoned Vehicle Portal. Idaho’s materials distinguish between law-enforcement tows, posted private-property tows, and lien-sale situations where the vehicle was left with permission and charges went unpaid.

Checked against official sources on October 4, 2026. Rules and links change; confirm with the office listed before you act.

Try a ZIP like 30303, “Travis County” or “Columbus, OH”
When a vehicle counts as abandoned
An older Idaho Falls city news release says Idaho Code 49-102 defines an abandoned vehicle as one left on a public roadway, highway, property open to the public, or private property without permission for 24 hours or longer.
Removing one from private property
Idaho guidance says a properly posted property may call the tow company on the sign, but if the property is not posted the owner should contact local law enforcement, which will tag the vehicle and have it removed after 48 hours unless immediate towing is justified.
Getting title to an abandoned vehicle
Idaho’s DMV guide routes title or disposal through the Abandoned Vehicle Portal and guide; posted-property and law-enforcement cases use forms such as ITD 5101, ITD 5102, ITD 5103, or ITD 4100/4101, while a release of interest from all owners and lienholders lets the tow company apply for title.

What to do next

  1. Check whether your lot is properly posted before arranging a tow; Idaho uses different procedures for posted and unposted private property.
  2. If law enforcement directed the tow, act quickly: Idaho says hearing requests must be made in writing within 10 days of the first DMV notice.
  3. If you had an agreement letting the vehicle stay and storage or repair charges are unpaid, ask ITD about lien-sale procedures instead of using abandoned-vehicle reporting.
